Kitchen Hand, Camp Smitty
Description
This role is a temporary full-time STUDENT contract beginning June 26th, 2026 and running until August 21st, 2026.
PURPOSE:
For more than 100 years, BGC Ottawa has provided children and youth with a safe, supportive place to belong where they can play, learn and grow beyond the pressures of home and school.
Serving more than 12,000 young people each year, BGC Ottawa delivers free programs and services across Ottawa through four Clubhouses, Camp Smitty and community-based neighbourhood programming. GENERAL SUMMARY
This is a full-time, seasonal position that works closely with the Manager and Head Cook, the Kitchen Hand at our Camp Smitty location and will assist in the delivery of daily meals and ensure that the kitchen is maintained safely.
RESPONSIBILITIES / ACTIVITIES
Major Responsibility 1: Provide food service in conjunction with Head Cook and maintain kitchen
- Assist in preparing and serving a well-balanced menu for all camp sessions.
- Ensures proper storage of all foods and catering equipment
- Assists in maintaining a safe and clean kitchen.
- Assists with kitchen inventory.
- Reports any issues with equipment to the Head Cook.
- Assists in maintaining a clean, sanitary and well-organized kitchen.
- Maintains a safe work environment.
- Contribute to a positive and supportive atmosphere in the kitchen
Major Responsibility 2: Training
- Follow all BGC policies and procedures
- Attend all BGC Training sessions
- Actively participate in staff meetings and staff evaluation
Perform other related duties as required

- Multilingualism is an asset
Required Education, Training and Experience:
- Currently in High School or Post Secondary
- Experience working in a kitchen environment is an asset
- Recognized certification in first aid
- Completed safe food handling course is and asset
- HIGH FIVE certificate is an asset
All successful candidates will be required to obtain a Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC) before starting their first shift.
Compensation:
Contract sum of $4250
Start Date:
June 22nd 2026

Compensation
$4,250.00 per year
